The Role

Software Engineer

Location: Hybrid/Derby – Twice a week in the Derby office

Contract: Permanent

We are looking for an experienced Software Engineer to join our talented and innovative IT team. This role will be focused on adding new features to and maintaining the Motorpoint.co.uk website.

As a member of the team, you will be responsible for streamlining and enhancing the car buying journey for our customers. User experience and performance are critical and every millisecond counts. With spikes of around half a million requests per second across the eco-system, we’re looking for someone who is comfortable writing and optimising large scale, customer facing applications.

Essential skills

  • At least 2 years commercial experience writing web applications
  • Experience of working with a cloud provider (AWS / Azure)
  • Experience of working with version control software (Git / Azure DevOps)
  • Experience of working in Agile environments
  • TypeScript / JavaScript
  • Next.js / React
  • CSS / Sass

Desirable skills

  • C#
  • SQL Server
  • Rabbit MQ

The ideal candidate will also possess

  • A willingness to learn and push the boundaries of their own knowledge and the technology available
  • A logical approach to problem solving
  • The confidence to work independently and as part of a team
  • The ability to establish excellent working relationships with the existing IT team and across the wider business
