Casual Front of Housing Assistant (Museum)

£12.34 per hour

Working hours vary between 4-7 hours per day as required.

Working days: Weekends and school holidays as required throughout the year (with some possible evening event work by prior arrangement.)

We are looking for enthusiastic and dedicated Front of House Museum Assistants to support the day to day running of our Museum Service which, based primarily at the Mill Green Mill and Museum in Hatfield, and on occasion at the Roman Bath House in Welwyn. 

Welwyn Hatfield Museum Service manages two separate heritage sites. At Mill Green Mill and Museum, we operate a working watermill and a social history museum.  At Welwyn Roman Bath House we show the remains of a Roman bathing suite which has been ingeniously preserved in a subterranean structure under the A1(M) motorway.

Working closely with our dedicated team of staff and volunteers you will welcome and assist members of the public and other visitors to the sites with a high level of customer service; take cash and card payments through our till; make sure our shops are well stocked; keep our sites clean and tidy; introduce our sites and exhibitions, and deal with customer enquiries. There may also be additional work serving in our on-site café.

You will have experience of working directly with members of the public; confident with technology; cash handling and working a till system (although training will be provided); possess good spoken and written communication skills; and have practical skills to assist with exhibitions, museum activities, displays and special community events on site. 

The ability to converse at ease with members of the public and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential in this post.
