Job Title: Trade Effluent Regulatory Scientist
Circa £41,000 pro-rated per annum (dependent on skills & experience) + Company car allowance
Up to 12 months Fixed Term Contract (Maternity cover)
Part-time – 22.2 hours/3 days per week (flexible on days across Monday to Friday)

As one of our Trade Effluent Regulatory Scientists, you will perform a pivotal role in effectively regulating non-domestic discharges to ensure the business provides environmental and social prosperity in the region we serve. Based at Basildon Water Recycling Centre, Essex, you will be travelling across Essex, reporting directly to our Trade Effluent Regulation Manager. You will work as part of a team regulating trade effluent customers and investigating pollution incidents.
Duties within this role include:

Protecting Anglian Water, our people, treatment processes and the environment from the impacts of non-domestic discharges

Setting up consents for new discharges and review existing consent documents following a set program

Applying sound scientific reasoning to ensure consistent and effective regulation of non-domestic discharges

Carrying out equivalent enforcement action following standard procedures

Gathering evidence and preparing documentation required for legal proceedings

Reviewing catchment areas to identify new or non-regulated trade effluent discharges and investigating pollution incidents

Complying with all health and safety procedures within Anglian Water and those on third party sites

Working in an equivalent manner to ensure market retail codes (Wholesale / Retail separation) are always met

Undertaking close liaison with Scientists, and operational teams to proactively meet business objectives

Contributing to the development of regional policies and standards

What does it take to be a Trade Effluent Regulatory Scientist?
-
Educated to Degree Level or equivalent in a relevant scientific subject
-
Full UK Driving license, as this role will involve regular travel across Essex
-
Knowledge of water recycling sewage treatment process and collection systems would be an advantage

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Ability to build and manage relationships with key internal and external stakeholders

Good understanding of IT systems and able to analyse, interpret and process data in a clear and concise way

Confident to challenge individuals and balance effective regulation whilst providing excellent customer service

Demonstrate an awareness and good understanding of Health & Safety

Plan, prioritise and manage own workload in a largely self-managed environment
