What can I expect?
We’re looking for a reliable and motivated Support Worker to join our professional team at Sense College Peterborough, supporting young people and adults with complex disabilities to access learning, develop their independence and get the most out of everyday life.
This is a permanent, part-time position working 21 hours per week across 3 days, from 9:15am–4:15pm (across 45 weeks of the year)
As a Support Worker, you’ll provide person-centred support to learners who may have dual or single sensory impairments, learning disabilities and associated physical disabilities. You’ll work closely with each individual to understand their needs, communication preferences and goals, helping them to be as involved as possible in every part of their day-to-day lives.
You’ll support learners to work towards the long-term goals identified in their Individual Learning Plans and/or social care programmes. This could involve developing life skills, accessing educational and vocational activities, getting involved in the local community and supporting learners to make their own choices and build greater independence.
The duties are varied and no two days will be the same. You’ll support people to take part in activities that are meaningful to them, while helping to promote their health and wellbeing. Supporting learners with personal care is also a requirement of this role.
What we’re looking for:
We’re looking for someone who is caring, reliable and motivated to join our College team delivering specialist education programmes to young adults.
You’ll be someone who:
- Is passionate about supporting disabled people to achieve their goals and increase their independence
- Can build positive and respectful relationships with the people we support, their families and colleagues
- Is comfortable adapting their communication style to meet individual needs
- Can work effectively both independently and as part of a team
- Is willing to support learners with their mobility, personal care and day-to-day activities
- Is willing to learn and develop new skills through the training provided by Sense
Previous experience working with people with sensory impairments or using a range of communication methods would be beneficial, but specialist training will be provided.
