Occupational Health Screening Nurse – Newcastle Upon Tyne, Tyne and Wear

  • This is a part-time role working 32 hours per week

Main Responsibilities

As an Occupational Health Screening Nurse, you’ll:

  • Review and assess health questionnaires for new starters, providing clear advice to managers and escalating complex cases to Occupational Health Advisors when required
  • Deliver health surveillance activities, including height and weight checks, audiometry, vision screening, lung function testing, blood pressure monitoring, and skin assessments, as appropriate
  • Coordinate specialist medical assessments (BNDC), ensuring timely organisation and follow-up
  • Accurately record, maintain, and securely manage confidential medical records and systems in line with statutory and data protection requirements
  • Support colleagues sensitively by listening, assessing needs, evidence based advice and recommendations. Refer individuals to appropriate internal or external support where necessary and liaise with management as required
  • Work closely with Occupational Health Advisors, supporting ongoing case management and providing advice to individuals
  • Ensure practice complies with all relevant legal and professional standards, maintaining NMC registration at all times
  • Undertake any other duties appropriate to the role and level of responsibility as required

Ideal Candidate

You will fit right into this role if you: 

  • Are a Registered General Nurse with full, current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC)
  • Have specialist knowledge of Occupational Health and an understanding of its application in a workplace setting
  • Bring post-qualification clinical experience, for example, in health assessments, general practice, or a similar setting
  • Have experience delivering clinical services within a complex or multisite organisation
  • Demonstrate strong working knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Equality Act, Access to Medical Reports Act, Data Protection Act and Health and Safety at Work Act
  • Are a confident, competent clinician who can work independently and apply clinical judgement effectively
  • Communicate clearly and professionally, with excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to handle sensitive issues with empathy
  • Are skilled in building positive working relationships with colleagues, managers, and healthcare professionals
  • Are comfortable using IT systems, including Microsoft Office and clinical record systems
  • Are committed to continuous professional development, actively maintaining and expanding your clinical knowledge and skills
