JOB PURPOSE

You will establish a data governance framework and ensure adherence to it, including data policies, standards and practices as well as lead and manage data governance activities delivering data quality and data improvement initiatives. You will manage Data Governance Leads and Data Stewards’ input into the Data Governance strategy and manage deliverables.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Define and implement a data governance framework detailing roles and responsibilities, briefing the team members on their stewardship responsibilities and accountabilities to for the stewardship of the company’s data assets
  • Plan and coordinate data governance communication initiatives raising awareness of the importance and scope of data governance, provide updates, celebrate successes and seek wider business engagement
  • Collaborate with IT teams to ensure projects involving data are being evaluated and guided by and complying with data governance policies and processes
  • Report on progress of data governance initiatives to Information Standards Board and work with senior leadership team on priorities based on business strategy
  • Facilitate the development and implementation of data quality standards, and adoption across the enterprise
  • Define indicators of performance and quality metrics and ensure compliance with data related policies and standards
  • Lead senior business data owners to achieve their objectives, resolve issues escalated from business and IT functions
  • Provide progress reports to board management and oversee the data governance roadmap
  • Work with relevant data owners and data stewards to define data quality metrics, including measures for compliance with data related policies, standards, and regulatory requirements
  • Regularly measure, report and present findings on data quality to data owners, data stewards, the Data Steering Groups, and The Data Governance Council
  • Undertake verification and investigation activities to identify root causes for data errors and report findings to the relevant business stakeholders
  • Support the development of and monitor the effectiveness of data change processes, ensuring data integrity and consistency between systems where integration is not yet enabled
  • Interrogate databases using a wide range of data discovery and analysis tools and techniques to check data integrity and consistency
  • Facilitate the development and implementation of data quality standards, data protection standards and adoption requirements across the enterprise

PERSONAL PROFILE

  • Knowledge of data management and governance processes
  • Experience of managing a team
  • Experience of data profiling to identify data quality issues
  • Experience of developing and improving data processes
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Ability to communicate technical issues in plain English
  • Strong problem solving, time management and organisational skills
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, in particular the ability to articulate data concepts to business users
  • Knowledge of SAP would be desirable
