Communications Manager PHI UK PMHC (0.4 FTE) – Strand, London, WC2R 2LS

About us:

In April 2024, IoPPN, King’s College London led the establishment of a national disseminated population mental health consortium, as part of a UKRI funded population health improvement initiative (Population Health Improvement UK). This post will be situated in Department of Psychological Medicine, at IoPPN (Denmark Hill campus), London and will work across this partnership with researchers, policy stakeholders, and people with lived experience of mental ill health. The consortium has its research and policy focus on children and young people’s mental health, prevention of self-harm and suicide, and multiple-long term conditions. The cross-cutting platforms across these areas are policy, practice and lived experience, data and methods, training and capacity building, and inequalities.   

About the role:

This is a fantastic opportunity for a communications specialist to bring to life important research stories with policy impact in an engaging way to a wide range of audience. The role is situated in the national PHI UK Population Mental Health Consortium (PMHC) with a focus on the upstream prevention of mental ill health, funded by UKRI. Joining a cross-partnership team, the role holder will be a self-starter with experience working within academic institutions and have an understanding or a deep curiosity about mental health, policy development and showcasing impact. The ideal candidate will possess excellent skills in storytelling, and experience in production of social media content, and multiple formats of media (Podcast, video, blog posts, infographic design or commissioning, press releases, news stories etc.). There will be opportunities to work with other communications specialists and people with experiences in population health, policy engagement, data analysis and creative arts production.
 
This is a part time post (14 hours per week), and you will be offered a fixed term contract until 31 March 2028

About you:  

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience: 
 
Essential criteria
  1. Education to a degree level or demonstrable equivalent experience
  2. Excellent communication skills, including experience of promoting and disseminating research findings to a range of audiences using multiple formats (e.g. visual, textual, digital, etc.)
  3. Experience of organising and coordinating research-related engagement activities, including public-facing events, conferences, webinars, and exhibitions
  4. Experience of maintenance, editing and content creation for web and social media channels in a professional capacity
  5. Demonstrated ability to communicate challenging content in a sensitive and accessible way
  6. Demonstrated experience in working collaboratively with researchers, non-academic organisations, and people with lived experience
  7. Experience using evaluation tools to measure impact, including the use of insights, analytics and emerging trends to inform content and improve performance.
 
Desirable criteria
  1. Demonstrated ability in science writing
  2. Previous experience working in communications related to mental health
