The Opportunity

Working in our chemistry team, you’ll be working on Equipment Reliability, Chemical Safety and ongoing monitoring of chemistry operations on site. In this role you’ll be able to demonstrate your leadership attributes as well, providing advice and guidance to various stakeholders on the station.

We’re looking for someone to demonstrate excellent team working capability as well as the initiative and flexibility to work independently. Experience and knowledge of Power Plant Chemistry, good analytical techniques, COSHH oversight, confined space processes, Pressurised Water Reactors and Radiochemistry will all be important to success in this role.

What you’ll be doing
Â
Your main duties as an Assistant Chemist will include:
Â
- Developing standards and specifications for Plant Chemistry monitoring
- Trending chemistry data, investigating plant issues and initiating required corrective actions
- Preparing and reviewing documentation used to support the site chemistry programme
- Providing advice on matters of chemical safety, materials compatibility and chemical cleanliness
- Working closely with the chemistry laboratory team to ensure compliance with analytical requirements.

Who you are
Â
As a member of our Chemistry team, you’ll need a sound knowledge of power plant chemistry, Pressurised water reactors and radiochemistry, as well as working knowledge of Site Licence requirements and an understanding of permit for work systems and emergency response procedures.
Â
Holding an HNC (or Level 4 equivalent) is essential, preferably in a relevant technical or scientific subject. A thorough knowledge of power plant chemical monitoring standards, techniques and their application associated with power generation plant is desirable as is the ability to demonstrate an understanding of PWR chemistry or experience in the above duties.

You should be able to confidently take the lead when dealing with technical issues, bringing to life your communicative and people management skills. Personally, you’ll be a determined individual who brings enthusiasm and engagement not just to your own work, but you’ll also be able to motivate and help drive the wider team around you.
