Job Title: Automation & Control Engineer
Salary – Circa £40k – £46k, salary dependant on skills and experience
Location – Home Based with travel throughout our region including Northamptonshire, Bedfordshire, Norfolk, Cambridgeshire, Lincolnshire & Essex

Using specialist technical experience and knowledge, you will support the Water and Water Recycling Optimisation Teams with the design, delivery, or implementation of optimisation solutions to OT Automation and Industry Control networks across the AWS region to support the reduction of operating costs. The role will support the embedding of new and emerging technologies and solutions to support the efficient operation of water and water-recycling systems and networks.
What will you be doing?
The Automation & Control Engineer will be part of a dedicated delivery team that will undertake the Optimisation of new and existing Operational Technology hardware and process control networks/systems (Automation/SCADA/IoT/Telemetry). This is to help drive efficiencies of operational asset performance to support key ODIs, e.g., Energy, I2S, leakage and pollution reduction. They will also play a key role in supporting the development and creation of new SMART OT systems, using existing and emerging IOT technologies within the innovation Shop Window.
You will be expected to have good technical understanding of OT Automation & SCADA systems within the water industry, along with a drive to develop and adopt specialist technical skills. The OT Optimisation Engineer will also have a basic understanding of traditional Telemetry systems, communications and instrumentation e.g. outstations, sensors and protocols. These skills will all help determine how these can be leveraged to support the ongoing improvements and efficiencies within the business.
Strong communication skills will be key as you will be regularly engaging with key stakeholders, collaborating with colleagues throughout the business and working closely with the wider OT teams. As part of these essential skills you will be required to make decisions that will impact business critical processes, and therefore be required to take reactive and pro-active accountability.
Working across the whole AW region, they will be expected to travel to all types of operational sites, using their knowledge of process to understand various requirements. Excellent communication skills will be needed to understand and feedback to various types of stakeholders. The role holder will work closely with the Senior OT Optimisation Engineers to allow for greater support, knowledge transfer and greater team collaboration.
Knowledge & Skills
Industry experience of engineering, implementing, and maintaining OT Process Control, SCADA, PLC, and Industrial Serial/IP Networks
Sound technical understanding of OT architectures, experience in the application of PLC, SCADA and industrial networking for site control systems and networks
Knowledge of hardware and/or software manufacturer roadmaps
Proven troubleshooting skills with an ability to demonstrate methodical approaches to problem solving
knowledge of the operational environments, operator skill levels and operating cost implications of the proposed OT engineering solutions
Ability to write clear, concise, accurate engineering & design specifications with measurable outputs.
Experiencing of managing IT/OT risks and controls
Full driving licence
