Sub Agent (NOS08)

 

The Role

The Sub Agent on Northern Outfall Sewer Bridge 8 (NOS08) will report to the Site Agent and be responsible for the overall delivery of the works to replace the NOS08 bridge in line with the costs and programme while maintaining the standards of health and safety, quality and environmental impact. The NOS08 Sub Agent will ensure that the works are compliant with the requirements of the design, specification and contract requirements.

 

The successful candidate will report to the NOS08 Site Agent and will be responsible for a team of engineers in delivering the work. The Sub Agent will also liaise with the Client Construction Manager and third parties such as London Borough of Newham to ensure the works are approved before, during and after construction.

 

The NOS08 project is a mixture of direct and sub-contract delivery. The Sub Agent will be responsible for the control of the works and co-ordination between parties.

Key Responsibilities

Site Management

  • Responsible for the safe delivery of the NOS08 bridge replacement project
  • Deliver the work to the specified quality without defects and ensure all assurance documentation is completed in a timely fashion
  • Understand and interpret drawings and specifications
  • Provide engineering expertise and support to the project team
  • Mentor a team of Engineers to deliver the work safely without environmental incidents, and to the specified quality
  • Ensure production and implementation of RAMS and ITP’s; and manage the Waste Management Plan
  • Engage with collaborative planning sessions with the wider team and production of 6/8-week look-aheads
  • Ensure all staff, subcontractors and visitors are properly inducted, meet the competencies required of them and hold relevant qualifications and tickets
  • Undertake an ambassadorial role, representing the Business to customers, the public and official bodies
  • Chair site meetings as required
  • Obtain all ‘as built’ information ensuring that it is accurate and relevant

Health, Safety, Environment and Quality

  • Always comply with Company procedures and legal obligations, promoting best practice
  • Promote the Barhale cardinal rules and establish safe working cultures and practices and environmental compliance
  • Maintain and manage construction sites and subcontractors, developing positive working relationships
  • Oversee and ensure that all HSEQ-related documentation is kept up to date and briefed as necessary
  • Ensure that daily, weekly, and monthly inspections are carried out and that all audits and reports are produced
  • Liaise with relevant third parties and government agencies
  • Ensure that the Quality Assurance (QA) file is produced and maintained
  • Ensure the work is delivered snag/defect-free and on time

Managing Resources

  • Produce procurement schedules and liaise with the procurement department to ensure sites have adequate resources to complete the tasks
  • Carry out take-offs and raise material orders where needed
  • Work with the Construction Manager and Foreman to ensure that the correct level of personnel and plant resource is available
  • Ensure that daily allocation sheets and diaries are completed and issued

About you

Essential

  • Experience of working within Civil Engineering and as a Site Agent for a contractor, delivering projects in a highly regulated environment
  • Working knowledge of contract conditions, CDM regulations, Design Management, Programme and Risk Management and cost control, including forecasting, actual cost, and value reporting
  • Good knowledge of specifications and testing regimes relevant to general civil engineering inc. MCHW, DMRB and Thames Water asset standards
  • Degree/HNC in Civil Engineering, or equivalent
  • CSCS and SMSTS
  • Excellent communication, people, and team management skills
  • Ability to challenge designs and resolve problems to a conclusion
  • Ability to demonstrate the right behaviours and lead the team to ensure the culture is in line with our Company values
  • Ability to develop and maintain a programme
  • Experience working in a high risk environment and the ability to control those risks to safely deliver the works
  • Excellent problem-solver

  • CEng MICE, or equivalent
  • IOSH Managing Safely or SMSTS
  • Temporary works Coordinator
  • City and Guilds Confined spaces
  • Appointed Person for Lifting Operations
  • Experience working in a live highways environment
  • Experience working in a live railway environment
  • Experience in mentoring junior engineers

  • Understanding of JCT and NEC forms of contract
