Job Description

Roxby Farm Bank assistant will support day to day operations when Full time Vocational is not available, helping ensure animals are healthy and facilities are well maintained. The role is hands on and ideal for someone who enjoys outdoor, physical work and has a practical, flexible approach.

A farm bank worker in a care company is responsible for providing daily care to the animals, maintaining clean and safe enclosures, and creating meaningful animal-assisted activities that support residents’ well-being. They ensure all animals are healthy, properly fed, and handled safely, while also engaging residents through gentle interaction, sensory experiences, and farm-themed routines. By working closely with care staff, keeping accurate records, and maintaining high standards of hygiene and safety, they help create a calming, therapeutic environment that enhances residents’ quality of life. 

Key Responsibilities:

  •  Feed, water and monitor small animals including birds and goats.
  • Cleaning of pens, aviaries, housing and bedding.
  • Carry out routine animal health checks and report concerns.
  • Support in handling animals safely for treatment, movement or grooming.
  • Writing hand overs to outline completed and outstanding tasks.
  • Maintain basic equipment 
  • Assist with repairs and facility upkeep
  • Unload and move materials such as feed, hay or supplies  

Requirements:

  •  Good communication skills and ability to escalate issues appropriately
  • Confidence working with a range of small animals and birds
  • Good physical fitness and stamina
  • Basic knowledge of small animals
  • Reliable and able to follow instructions
  • Comfortable working independently
  • Willingness to adapt to seasonal tasks
  • Must have knowledge of DEFRA and animal welfare regulations relevant to small animal care.
  • Good communication skills and ability to escalate issues appropriately.
  • Basic knowledge of small animals.
  • Availability to work every Saturday and Sunday, cover annual leave and some bank holidays including Christmas
  • Drivers licence
