About the role
As a Resettlement Officer, you’ll play a vital role in helping vulnerable individuals and families build a safe, secure and fulfilling life here in West Northamptonshire. Working as part of our Community Engagement & Resettlement team, you will provide tailored advice, guidance and practical support to people arriving through Government resettlement and visa schemes, as well as recently granted refugees.
Every day brings variety – from conducting home visits and assessing individual needs to supporting people with accessing benefits, employment, education and local services. You’ll develop personalised integration plans that recognise each person’s strengths, ambitions and cultural background, ensuring they have the tools and confidence to thrive in their new community.
You’ll build strong relationships with local partners, training providers, employers and voluntary organisations to create opportunities that promote independence, wellbeing and community integration. Your work will also include supporting households with essential settling-in tasks, such as connecting utilities, accessing healthcare, and understanding local systems and services.
This is a rewarding, people‑focused role where empathy, resilience and excellent communication skills are essential. You will manage your own caseload, using your initiative to problem‑solve, plan ahead and achieve positive outcomes. What will you be doing?
In this varied and rewarding role, you will provide compassionate, practical and person‑centred support to individuals and families resettling in West Northamptonshire. You’ll work closely with people to understand their needs, strengths and aspirations, developing tailored integration plans that help them build confidence and independence. This includes offering guidance on navigating local services, supporting benefits and income‑related queries, and helping people improve their employment prospects through CV support, job‑matching and links with training providers.
Your day‑to‑day work will include managing your own caseload across multiple Government visa and resettlement schemes, carrying out home visits, and ensuring households feel safe, welcomed and supported. You’ll be a trusted point of contact for newly arrived families, assisting with essential settling‑in tasks such as registering with utilities, and accessing community, statutory and voluntary services.
You will build strong working relationships with internal colleagues, external partners and local organisations to create pathways into education, employment and community participation. You’ll also play a key role in promoting social inclusion and community integration through activities and initiatives that help people feel connected to their new surroundings.
Alongside your frontline work, you’ll maintain accurate case records, complete risk assessments, make referrals to appropriate support services and ensure your work aligns with WNC’s values around trust, respect, empowerment and high performance. Throughout, you will champion inclusive practice, uphold the welfare and safety of those you support, and contribute to continuous improvement of the resettlement service.
About you
You’ll be someone who thrives in a people‑focused role and brings empathy, patience and strong communication skills to every interaction. You’re able to adapt your style to suit different audiences and situations, building trust and understanding with individuals and families who may be facing significant challenges.
You will be confident managing your own caseload, using your initiative to prioritise work, identify issues early and plan effectively to achieve positive outcomes. Collaboration comes naturally to you – you’re comfortable influencing, negotiating and working alongside colleagues, partners and community organisations to deliver the best possible support.
Your background will include experience of working with people who have a range of support needs, such as mental health difficulties, domestic abuse, trauma, or challenges linked to resettlement or displacement, and you have a good understanding of the local services and pathways available. You’ll also bring knowledge of welfare benefits, income maximisation and money‑related advice, or be ready to develop this through training.
You’re someone who remains calm, professional and respectful, even when working with people in difficult or sensitive circumstances. You value diversity, champion inclusive practice and always seek to eliminate discriminatory behaviours. Being digitally confident, or willing to learn, you’ll use systems like Office 365 to maintain accurate records, complete assessments and ensure information is managed safely and securely.
