Lead Miner
The Role
To carry out tasks set by site management, to oversee your team and be responsible for carrying out deep drainage excavations, tunnelling, connections to sewer lines, general groundworks and reinstatements and ensure a high level of health and safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Be responsible for Miners in your area and ensure best practice procedures
- Oversee and perform deep excavations, shaft sinking, tunnelling and groundworks
- Understand and attend site briefings, Toolbox Talks and RAMS and relay to the team and support staff
- Maintain a high standard of work and ensure that the completion of works is on schedule and is delivered safely
- Read and understand drawings for a specific section of work
- Ensure all permits are in place before commencing any work
- Safety checks on equipment in use and ensure that the correct processes are followed to report issues
- Communicate with the site management team on any health and safety concerns, feedback on any near-miss or close-call reporting
- Develop the team by building their knowledge
- Build a good team spirit and ensure good production in a safe environment
Essential:
- Previous experience in shaft sinking, jacking, and underpinning
- Background in timber heading mining technique
- Knowledge in installing temporary works such as sheeted pits, cofferdam headings, and frames
- Proficient in open-cut pipe installation
- CSCS card
- SSMTS
- City and Guilds Confined Spaces
- Health & Safety Awareness
- NRSWA
